ZOA-supported Institutions and Projects
The projects ZOA supports are spread across the country. ZOA is active in seven of Zambia’s nine provinces (see map of projects), and in both rural and urban areas. Although not all projects are supported every year, ZOA remains engaged with most of them through visits and assistance in kind, as well as by offering advice for the sustainability of their efforts. Zambia Orphans of AIDS selects the projects it supports carefully to ensure accountability and effective use of the resources.
The projects ZOA supports fall within three broad categories:
- Children’s homes and schools
- Outreach programs
- Skills training facilities
ZOA provides assistance in three major ways:
- Supplies seed capital for income generating activities with the goal of sustainability so the projects can reach more orphans and other vulnerable children;
- Supports social support activities such as feeding infants, providing fees for examinations and school supplies, assisting with HIV tests so that those found positive can access anti- retroviral treatment, and supporting community loss and grief programs.
- Contributes to skills and capacity enhancement activities for orphans, including assisting with pre- and community schools.
Zambia Orphans of AIDS in Zambia helps identify and qualify projects for funding, processes the applications, monitors performance, and provides technical support where needed. |
